Media Release 20/10/06
Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism have released their new Official Visitor Guide and renovated website.
The new visitor guide, designed to reflect the typical visitor experience in both the city of Christchurch and in the wider Canterbury region, has extensive information on districts and tourism operators.
CEO of Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism (CCT), Ian Bougen says that the function of the guide is twofold – to stimulate the level of visitor interest in the Canterbury region and to consolidate that interest with a substantial information resource.
“With 108 pages of Christchurch and Canterbury information, maps, travel information and operator product, this publication represents a very strong information base for visitors to use in exploring the full diversity of our region’, he said. “This first edition focuses on summer and autumn, with a second edition due to be released in May 2007 featuring winter and spring – this reinforces our seasonally segmented marketing approach”
The new visitor guide is being distributed nationally through the i-SITE visitor information network and also via a national distribution network. Internationally the new guide will be supplied to the travel trade and media organisations. Even prior to the guide being printed the level of interest from inbound tourism operators, wholesalers and travel agents was unprecedented. Orders had been received from all round the world.
“This is the only visitor guide for Christchurch & Canterbury that is taken offshore by CCT marketing staff to key international markets,” says Ian “not to mention the only guide of our region available from Tourism New Zealand offices worldwide.”
Complementing the release of the new visitor guide is the launch of CCT’s newly re-vamped website. “Current wisdom is that websites should go through a re-design process every eighteen months or so”, says Ian. “This maintains their relativity and also their technological currency. Prior to the re-design our website was performing extremely well, both in terms of visitor numbers and average time spent on the site, but there were areas we felt could be significantly improved and we have addressed these in the re-design. Most of the cosmetics of the re-design have now been completed, and in the next stage we will be upgrading and improving some of the technology behind the scenes.”
