There are more than forty points of cultural interest within the central city area.  More than half of these are art galleries, which, alongside our theatres, symphony orchestra and regional opera company, are an indication that cultural life in the city of Christchurch continues to thrive.  It does so in a way that increasingly places it in an international context.  The splendid new Christchurch Art Gallery is the most obvious example of this and our visual artists produce many others.
